| I totaly believe this, peanuts can be full of toxins and they are deadly if taken in large amounts, If you feed lots to your birds they get over loaded. I think its actually the skins that are toxic. Thats why you should but human consumption nuts and not the type fed to wild birds, the wild birds dont swallow the nut whole like pigeons so dont eat the skin and dont get poisoned. |

| For me there is two ways of feeding peanuts first is put them in a food blender to chop them up fine and mix with the corn or as soon as the pigeons know the taste then feed them by hand to each pigeon, 1 peanut/ 2 halfs this will help the pigeons to become tamer round you |

| phil, if ken comes on he will tell you that he only feeds the nuts for human consumption but only when they are fresh.......if he doesnt use all the nuts that day he will eat them imself as he tells me that once they are not used they get a mould/fungus on them , or something like this....im not exactly sure but ill ask him to let you know....... |

| Peanuts are a great source of energy and for helping in taming the birds, i buy the very small packets you get from asda, these are freeze dried sealed, but once open they soon grow a fungus which is very toxic to birds, so once opened i will give each bird one or two no more, what is left i eat, and not left for another day, if i want to give the birds another treat i will open a fresh packet Ken |

| Peanuts and Aflatoxin
Peanuts are susceptible to molds and fungal invasions. Of particular concern is aflatoxin, a poison produced by a fungus called Aspergillus flavus. Although better storage and handling methods have virtually eliminated the risk of aflatoxin ingestion, aflatoxin is a known carcinogen that is twenty times more toxic than DDT purchasing raw peanuts, it is still wise to ensure that the peanuts have been stored in a dry, cool environment (the fungus grows when the temperature is between 86-96°F (30-36°C) and when the humidity is high).
Nutritional Profile
Peanuts are a very good source of monounsaturated fats. In addition, peanuts are a good source of niacin, folate, copper, manganese, and protein. Ken |
