ah right Darren, the reason im asking is I was wanting to buy a brick hammer off ebay, to replace one I cant find......its the same as mine I had when I was an apprentice which they class as vintage now because its over 25 years old, the advert says it has a few worm holes so im concerned it may still be active and infect my other tools and also the house/garage etc........

You can buy an over the counter treatment now David, make sure you treat twice, and keep away from other stuff till your sure it gone,I did my old Marshall town plastering trowel with a wooden handle as you can't get them now, even though I can't use it anymore ( nostalgia and all that) B&q will sell it David.

thanks lofty, tools you've used for years become part of you, my trowel got broke a few years ago and I couldn't do anything, luckily I had one the same but bigger so I cut and ground it down to the exact dimensions as my broken one.......this old hammer is to replace one I cant find, but having thought about the worm holes it put me off buying it. it runs out tonight so I need to weigh up the pros and cons, and if it could be a problem because of the worm holes....which may or may not still be active........
