I used to keep my pigeons in a brick built shed but the bricks used to work like a storage heater and the loft got roasting hot in the summer even well into the night. the shed is at the back of my garden, and I cant open the back up for ventilation as it backs on to garages and some people leave their cars running whilst working on them and the loft would fill up with fumes. I'm starting up again and don't know whether to try to put more ventilation in the front of the brick shed or save up and build a wooden one a bit closer to the house, but moneys very tight at the moment. can anyone that's had wooden and brick sheds give me any pros and cons for both. Thanks

hi mate i would be thinking of air bricks they are not expensive, or drill a load of holes, or install an extraction fan, if you have no lecky use a car battery, and power it up with a small solar panel, hope this helps, theres always a way ?.

can you install a small chimney to the roof of the brick shed also edgies idea of a few air bricks is a good one but the chimney would help pull air through the vents or you could even install air bricks at the bottom front and a few at the top back atb

Boosey !!!!!!! in relation to the chimney etc in the roof, many flyers here use what I would call whirly birds in the roofs. They allow any heat to escape 24/7 & when the wind blows they circulate drawing more heat /dust out of the lofts etc. Could be a possibility if you have such a thing over there. ***** |

I have a loft made of both blocks and wood. The floor is concrete and I blocked up 4ft at the back and sides, and 3ft in the front, then a wooden structure fitted on top. It has a tiled roof on the A frames. I think this is better than wood or brick only, it is totally vermin proof as nothing goes under it and nothing can chew its way in, it has perfect ventilation and isn't too hot or cool, the temp inside is down to you whatever its made of, If you position your vents correctly and either fit as suggested a fan if it gets too hot in mid summer or a chimney. I must admit the tiled roof lets in and out the warm air, but I did have a fan in the corridor this year all day when it was boiling hot but that's the first time I have ever done this.
