| If your talking old birds that are racing, I would have thought 3 in a week and a weekend race a bit much , but , I know next to nothing as far as old birds go, but if they are loft flying well 1/2 tosses would be enough. |

| same here phil, I know very little about racing but I think its too much once they have started racing....like lofty says, 3 @ 30 miles then racing at the weekend seems a lot to me. |

don't think this is over the top mate, few things to consider tho, once birds are fit and have their line don't see point in training, wouldn't get away with it here, hawks would have them, also 30miles probably equates to 40mins or less flying, fly mine twice day for 40 mins, different thoughts I would imagine depending on cicumstances but 30 mile is nout to be honest |

| See what works for you Phil. Mine don't fly round the loft so they need more training. Also some birds respond better to more training and some don't. |

| For my two penn'orth - Phil411 - if you are expecting your yearlings to race well on weekends, then I would say 3 training tosses per week is TOO much.
30 miles is not the problem, as they should be able to do that in 30 - 40 mins. It is the basketing, travailing etc, that is hard on them.
As a matter of interest - are you doing these training tosses in the direction the races are? If it was me, I would be training them 360 degrees around your loft at that sort of distances, if you want to stick to 30 miles. In that way, your birds will be really learning a good sized area around their loft.
What sort of distances are your races at the moment?
If your birds are flying around the loft for at least 30 - 40 mins twice a day, and racing at the weekend, with flying times of two and a half hours plus - then I think one good toss of around 50 - 60 miles should be adequate.
Just my thoughts.
the other Phil |

| Best racing I ever had was when I trained mine from Monday through to Thursday from Worcester 30 miles to me then race them Saturdays birds were not broken down but fed as much as they like racing cocks and hens one year round about and the next natural as mine never fly around the loft very much any way I would prefer to train over loft flying any day as the birds don't fly at race speed at home |

| some say it will burn them out but up to 300 mile I would say its ok ...a few stiff races of 6/7 hours of hard racing and more and training 3 x 30 may be a bit much ...I think its all about balance and observation of the race birds and their condition and whether they are expected to fly the whole programme ...no one size fits all as such |

| I think that's a good idea Phil. On these shorter races I'm training cocks twice a week and hens twice a week on alternate days between 21 and 27 miles depending on where I'm delivering. |

Sounds OK to me Phil 411 . Better to try & fail etc than to die wondering "what if" from my perspective. ***** |
