First off let me say that this is the worst breeding season I have had in many years.
Have 26 banded. Have 50 bands. This is at the present time. What is interesting to me is this. The six top cocks racing last few years were the first to go down in the Stock loft. 2nd rounders coming up. Yearling loft, 4 banded 2 more tomorrow. Parents are the racers I moved to the stock loft. So. If the racers I stocked are good breeders and also their children then the simple solution logically is to eliminate the others. Will do that by racing them of course. But thinking here. 12 young weaned birds have had weeks out in the aviary. They know the hawks routine. Hawks are mating here now. Hungry. Reasonable weather next day or so out they go. If they can get in and out first day they should be fine. If not too bad. Smart ones will figure it out. I hope. Lose half of them? Have to re-think flying young birds. Drastic to some but only alternative I can see to getting smart pigeons.
