| What month you folks pair up? Here early does not really have an advantage for young birds. DEc 25th mate etc,. The young cannot fly because of the weather but have avaries. Will try and fly young birds next year. No darkening here for yb's. Longest day of the year set the lights to the same hours via timer. Stops the moult. |

| yes slows it down hal with the lights ...some darken and do the lights ,early breeding here is usually for sales some will pair early December but late January here as have a few going to one loft and of course want racers paired and split before racing commences, I may darken ...never last year just did the lights thing from longest day ybs were weaned late march til end of april a few missed the last race.. only 3 ,apart from that all went to every race and it went well but this year we want to be more competitive in the open and that is darkie territory we got in their a few times last yr but want to push on now or at least try to atb with it hal |

| Last week March, early April. Two nests... all flew the y/b programme.
Then I seldom raced, later first round … Then late bred if needed or wanting some good 18 months later. Last few years never flew y/b birds. |

| 21st December for last few years, never goes to plan and usually sorted themselves out by early jan, stock are easy and will pair them when race birds have settled, got way too many cocks this year and for first time I have decisions to make which I hate, don't have problem carrying too many hens but cocks need a box so...…. |

| Think I would mate two cock birds to one hen. give them both time separately. A little togetherness some time to make them jealous and wanting to protect their lot. Woul let them be together before basketing to race... and sent together. J.M.O. |

| With complete open loft all year round have bred good pigeons at most times of the year.
Only the odd one or two, pot eggs manly used, most never bred in the bad months always thought they know better than me, having the same food all year round may have also affected them with that regard.
There is no hard and fast rules, one person will swear by one method and do well, another just the opposite and do just as well, makes life interesting.
Regards. |

| Again I agree with Misty, when never separated they didn't mate up til March/ April. Indeed they hardly ever laid in End of October onwards. Ok the climate change means it's warmer now all year round. Days of ferreting of only when there's a 'R' in the month may well be gone too, I see townie wild birds have trouble with no Darkness of nights and tend to whistle and what not. Again nature. |
