| First set ready to hang once paint dries, though it would be a good idea to make with slide out trays but became labour of love, probably took 3 times longer than box perches , never mind these are done and second set half way there..... Hopefully get things ready for April/ May youngsters, depends on free time, always something stops the job. |

| Very nice job barnie, but a bit large appears to me, will not get many in a normal loft, maybe better, a few good ones though.
Regards. |

| barnie, I used several different perches over the years, the ones that were used most by the pigeons were V perches they were always full before the box perches were used, and I always had far more perches than pigeons.
The V perch is the easiest to keep clean and free from bugs etc; take up less room and are by far the healthiest with regards to air flow.
Would never consider complicated box perches were I to start again.
Hope they work out for you.
Regards.

| Thought that was a tray leaning up barnie.
Never in any way meant to belittle the effort and dedication put into the making and design of the perches.
But as a pigeon site it is I feel right to consider aspects that arise and kick ideas around.
First the pigeon.
In my opinion a pigeon is as happy perched in any manner that is comfortable, be it on a bit of 2 x 2 or on fancy perch.
The latter in my opinion in many cases is not ideal.
Firstly in many cases there is not enough room for the pigeon to turn around and ward off invaders.
Then we have the cleaning and maintenance factor.
Take barnies for instance.
The trays will be removed to dispose of the droppings and themselves have to be cleaned, there will always be some left at the back when the tray is removed, making it difficult to remove and , it will be impossible to clean every part of the perches without spending many hours doing so.
With a V perch you could clean 40 in 10 minutes and have them perfectly clean.
Do not want to play Devils Advocate but have always thought more thought should be given to what is in the best interests of the pigeon.
Do not take it as anything other than an opinion barnie, nothing to do with anyone else what you do and as a example of workmanship 10 out of 10.
Regards.

| I'm happy enough with them, very limited time once I get the birds, so cleaning will be very easy, clear off the crap from the tray once or twice a week, job done. The're only 7" wide so just enough room for 1 bird. Tried and tested elsewhere with great results.
I did consider V perches but every loft I've been in when the fancier goes to catch a bird the rest fly off theirs. Again with limited time amongst them, I think mine would do the same.
I hear what you say, I guess simply down to personal choice and circumstances.

| Good point regarding catching the pigeons barnie.
Never had a problem myself but can see some could have problems.
I always thought pigeon first for contentment and love of home and know which the pigeons prefer.
I always considered the pigeons natural roosting when thinking perching.
If you only have a certain type of perch and the pigeons have no option then they will adapt and perform if treated properly, that does not say they like them.
Have always thought many fanciers think pigeons in human terms to the detriment of the pigeon, and like to impress with palatial lofts etc;
If all the fanciers in the club use the same perches etc; then someone will win.
After all it is the pigeon that has to fly the programme not the loft.
You enjoy your pigeons and the loft and everything in it barnie and good luck on the road.
We all have our own ideas regarding our sport and mine has given me everything and more than I could have hoped for.
Regards. |

| I got a friend to cut the angle of the V. Perches I copied at the timber place he worked at. The baton and plywood sheet. He also cut up to size for me. With his cutting the cost came to just over £50 quid. I made 257! Was at time being touted £2:30p each at the time. Wouldn't tale a penny... So I gave him a selection of Home made sausages and beef burgers. Yes wrapped and froze. About £25 cost to me from Morrisons. |

| i found if a dividing board was placed in between each row vertically then the pigeons stay on the v-perch ...always found the birds preferred a box perch here when both types were available to them and of course the floor stays cleaner with a box perch but go with what you prefer atb |

| Yes oldstrain. Boxes made them slight tamer, and I liked them Copied a fellow from Canada's way. Made them so easy to be well made and good … V perches, pitched close made them a little more naturally protective of their territory I found. |

Regards. Already got a cat hanging about under the shed, and that's before any birds are housed inside. Nip this in the bud. |

| Love all animals barnie, kept cats myself but they were never a problem with the pigeons, not the same with others cats though, you have to do what is necessary to protect your pigeons.
Not always nice but solves the problem.
