| Steve you dont havr to race youngbirds in the year they were born but as long as you train them well from at least 60 miles and basket them like you would for a race keeping thewm in the basket over night then they will be fine
There was a fancier to the name of Norman Westwood of Bilston and he was one of the best widowhood flyers in the midlands and he never raced his young cocks only trained them but trained them well |

| i like mine to go at least a 100mls racing but if you dont train them well in the year of their birth they will disappear like snow off a dyke on a hot summers day sean |

| i think its best to give them 3 races minimum in their year of birth for the exsperience but distance birds are a different ball game but must be trained well as yer not realy looking for um to show until 2 year old but sprinters need to have the exsperience of clearing the transporter and orientateing very quickly as sprint races are won at the race point jmo |

| Many fanciers in Pembrokeshire have tried everything late breds, late breds that have trained, earlies that have trained ect ect. But nothing is as good as getting experience in the race situation, its not just flying from a distance, its everything travelling, being in a ctate over night, late libs early libs, good weather, poor weather, large flocks all let go together, and then travelling home having pigeons pull off and going to various locations, To me its like building up a CV of experience which makes a real racer.
The best and consistent racers as youngsters tend to then carry it on as adults and are good racers in the future. I always tend to stop a few yearlings and not race then till the following season provided they were tested as yougsters, and have had good results with them.
You will always get the odd fancier who had a champion late bred that never went into a basket til it was 2, just like someones granny smoked 100 fags a day and lived to 100, its always what you hear but they forget the 100 pigeons which were lates they lost before finding that 1 bird, for me I haveent got the time or money to waste finding such pigeons which probably never exist.

Differant ways !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with what you do with young birds etc. Education/training has to be done if you want them to have a long team future. YB's are what I call ratty/stupid in their youth & you have to get that out of them through education. Mob tosses or a few races to 100miles can only be of benefit, the way I see things. Different strokes for different folks etc but here, we send them 600mls & think nothing of it. ***** |
