| If you use lime get a "soup tin can" drill some small holes in the base place a few but small pebbles then put a handful of lime in the can
By doing this you only sprinkle a very small amount on boxes, perches ect then just brush the excess of onto a shovel and use this on the floor |

| Well I have always used a loft white, just to keep floors spotless as Im a clean fanatic, I also suffer with astma so wear a mask, my loft harkers white is mixed with lime 50/50, the birds do sneeze if in the loft when you sweep, but I mostly clean out while they fly. However birds dont live long enough to get the problems we do assciated with dust so dont worry, and I have had amazing racing seasons using lime so it doesnt stop them racing well thats fact and Ill swear to it. |

| ive been reading up on pigeon diseases and it says if the birds get salmonella or paratyphoid then the lime can aid spreading as its very alkaline.to stop salmonella you need to put a teaspoonfull of thin bleach in the water as salmonella hates the acidic environment.ive also been told never to use bleach in the water because it kills all the bacteria in the birds gut.i think killing the bacteria for a week or so is better than killing the bird.i know most of you people will shoot me down for using bleach in the water. |

| Dont take this personaly because its not mean that way but If you ask me anyone who puts bleach in drinking water is an idiot, would you drink bleach, think about it. Put vinegar in the water instead its twice as effective and not poison. |

| so in comparison with a pigeon if we put a small amount of bleach into the drinker, the equivalent for a human would be approx i cup of bleach to a bucket of water........would you drink from this bucket every time you wanted a drink.....? im sure you would be ill within a few days. just my opinion, but no-one will convince me that bleach will not harm a pigeon if they drink it.... |

| had a quick read ian and yes, water does have a lot of nasty bacteria in it, but the link only says to disinfect, not to drink...........and im sure there are better things we can use to disinfet the drinkers etc than household bleach which as anyone knows.......is a corrosive which burns. |

| i try not to use but think it has its benefits to reduce infection of disease.some people use it when not giving them anything else in the water.i know it kills the good bacteria as well as the bad but i havent had any ill birds due to using it and when i suspect or find an ill bird in the main loft u will use it for a few days then give them a probiotic.i found it usefull last year when i had a bit of salmonella in the loft.a mouse had chewed through the inside step in the loft and was helping itself to the feeders.i was finding maize with only the end bit missing and a pile of seeds clumped in a corner of the loft.the hole was barely enough to fit a 5 pence piece through but knew this wasnt pigeons doing this.a fewdays later i found a couple of squeekers dying, cold and the crop was hard.put them in the bin and used the bleach.also spreyed the whole loft with a mixture of bleach and warm water for a few days.this kills the bacteria in the droppings and helps stop spreading. |
