| I thought it would be a good idea, that we have somethink like this, I am one of the new starters, coming back into racing pigeons. It will be my first breeding season, going onto my first racing season. On this forum we have many members with vast experience in the sport. I think it would be a good idea, to share any information and some good tips, for new members and also for other members to try.
A tip i picked up this weekend, After buying some VYKIL i was told to get some beer mats, and soak them in vykil, and then put under nest bowls when it comes to breeding. |

| thats right devo red mite are the most common cause of broken eggs or youngsters trod on in the night red mite feed on the babies once the older birds get bit they tend to stamp on the baby its not that they are killing them its the mite they are trying to be rid off
mites are grey in the day and you wont see them but if you go to your loft and there are mites there will be many hundreds sucking the blood from your babies take a torch around 11pm and just lift a few babies and shine the light under there bellies you will soon know s the mites will be deep red
also thats why older birds leave there eggs cus mite are present in most cases |

| i put diatoms under the nest felt ...same purpose to combat red mite should any be lurking and always have nest pan on top of a grill to stop any damp patches |

no George but seen it many times in the up and over style boxes I just use a grill designed for perches and cut them down slightly so their about 6 inch square I would never have the whole nest box grilled when ybs are in the nest I used to but you live and learn when the birds are sitting or racing to the box I do use a full grill |

| I spray the loft against red mite before breeding. And use wood shavings in the best bowl with straw, and I put wood shavings all around the nest bowl to dry up droppings.

| i think the best way is not trust to anything or blind treatments just have them checked it cost far less than blind treating theres a good vets site on here a test is around 12 pounds is it worth trying things you cant even see yes thats what your doing blind treating and when the problem hasnt gone you treat for something eles and so on and before you know it the damage is done your birds are even weaker through the drugs |

| Just had a nice phone call from David Cawardtalbot, from Belgica De weerd, I wrote a e mail to their head office asking, why more is not been done in the education side of the sport. The likes of fact sheets could be looked at, giving information on the well-being of racing pigeons. After a 20 minute chat, i felt it was a company i would be happy to deal with. And the great thing about it was, i never got a email back saying we have received your e mail. It was a person on the phone thanking me for my communication with their company. |

| Devo David at De Weerd is a really nice bloke, he takes time to explain things and doesnt push you to buy stuff, just gives sound advice. I called them this year when my youngens didn't look right.
I got a test kit from the Epsom show and will test my birds before I pair up. |
