| Our first couple started doing well, then this sickness hit so they've not been out for a few days, rain forecast for the next couple of days so they'll have a bit more time to recoup |

| We had 16 first rounders flying out twice a day. Flying for around 45 minutes each time. Until we had 3 naughty ones that did not come in one afternoon. I turned my back for 5 minutes and a hawk took one off the top of the young bird loft.
Now we have 15.
We have another 17 second round young birds that are just looking around and hopping up onto the first perch.
Good luck to all with your young birds and for the forthcoming racing season.

| Hi Phil411 - your semi-namesake here.
You say your y/b's are flying for one hour - is that 1 hour continually or do they come down and land and then take off again?
If they don't fly for the hour, do you bring them back in when they land or do you leave them out for the hour?
Has anybody else got ideas for flying their young birds? Should they be left out for an allotted time, or bring them in once they have landed.
I guess, it can depend on your hawk situation.

Phil you have done well phil after the bad luck you had ...did you get any ybs in or just breed at home All the young birds we have are bred by us. We have floated a few eggs from Matt's birds, that has helped. I don't really like buying in babies - even if I could find someone's y/b's that I liked the look of. Still can't find anybody to bring or collect birds from or to me. I wanted to enter a couple of One Loft Races, but can't get the birds to the organisers. Phil |

| We paired up 2nd week of December. First egg laid on Jan 4th. But if you remember David, we had a very bad start with two pairs of babies killed by a very dominant cock.
He is now separated with his hen and we have 2 rounds of y/b's from him.
15 first round young birds on the Darkness System. And 17 more about a month younger - NOT on darkness. I was just too late to get the second lot on the darkness.
There isn't much of a reason to put y/b's on darkness over here, as they stop racing quite early in our club and there are no big Fed or National races after mid August. I bred early because I wanted to get a few ready for One Loft Races. But I can't find a courier that will deliver or take birds to and from me. It's a bit crap really.
I wish I could get my youngsters to fly for an hour or more like Phil114. Maybe they will in a week or so. I don't believe in flagging young birds.
The joys of pigeon keeping ah!
Phil
