sorry ian, cant give my opinion on that one....cant remember how many were in baskets when i raced, but if they are coming back pecked i would say there is too many in the basket...although i have heard of very aggresive widowhood cocks sometimes which take over the baskets.

couldnt you suggest that the cocks are getting too aggressive and fighting too much and that you ask for them to be thined out a bit ?

the up north combine states that 25 birds to inland race 22 to channel we basketed birds last week while waiting for porter i started to count birds in one of the baskets because it looked overcrowded , it had 27 birds in , down to club members incapable of counting when basketing

ray they dont care ive mentioned it a few times even before they have been sealed they dont want to pay for one extra basket so they would rather put 26 birds in than 23- 24

The reason for this is because if you have a basket with 10 to 15 birds in then they put extra birds in different baskets to save the cost of that extra basket

no wonder you hear of birds coming home dehydrated and pecked through fighting.....the more in the basket means they will fight more and not be able to get water if offered it.
