| Me and luke are going to use one next year, will it piss the neighbours off, I really hope so, I really do, one side are brilliant nice and easy to get on with, the other side are a pair of scruffy gits and moan about everything and their garden is a tip, so it's loud whistles for us |

| definitely works david, 2 fingers in the gob does it for me, just the one blast to get their attention, convinced it works on race day if birds are in big batch and got their heads down, I suppose it no different to any animal connecting sound with home/food/treat |

| ive seen 2 types fanciers use, the "football" type whistle with the pea, and a pet type without a pea which gives a much quieter sound from it......im thinking of going for the pet / quiet type. |

| Personally I dislike the whistles with the peas in them so it is just a plain whistle for me.

| We will definitely be using them for next year, after watching a mate of ours calling his yb team it's a must have, we were there when his birds were zipping through quite high, one whistle and the birds turned straight away, second whistle, birds were coming in a tight circle, third whistle and they were on the landing board and in, brilliant to watch, he recons it only takes a few times and they get it |

| ive heard some teach the ybs from birth, when they feed the parents they use the whistle, so they associate it with food, so even before they are weaned to their own section they have an idea what it means..... |

| Yes - I have started teaching ALL our birds young and old to react to the whistle. And I will do it with the new babies in December.

| Whistles, calling, shaking the feed can. Whistle may or probably would pull a bird from a flock with his head down. Young birds. But have seen old birds coming home and about to land when the fancier blows the whistle and the bird goes up and circles. Old time, knows he will be caught and rubber removed, usually not too gently. Speed is of the essence. Never shook the feed can. Do not keep them hungry. Young birds come back and hesitate to trap, I talk to them softly. Old birds the same. Never raise my voice and yell at the Stupid Bugger. Basic premise is love of home. Safe secure environment. Old birds however usually not a problem. The whole point of the bird coming home is because it is home. They must want to come home! More motivation? Sure! Old birds eggs, youngsters in the nest, widowhood and a zillion other ways to motivate them. If one can foster trust with his birds, have a stable environment for them, the majority of trapping problems would be resolved. Again, just my opinion. |
