I haven't yet. I'm building a system of my own with a magnetic heater for pipes. I need to bend some flashing to fit over the box though. I've heard of the light bulb in a box trick. I was thinking of going that route also. Maybe if I put a dimmer switch on a 60 watt incandescent bulb, it will allow me to keep the water at 40 degrees f in different cold spells. |

| I was told not to worm my pigeons at all. The other racers told me that it is too dry here. Several fanciers have wormed them for years without any spaghetti production if you will . The pheasant breeders never seem to have worm issues either. |

| not sure about that rom, I don't know anything about conditions and worms.........I never used to bother worming mine, and ive heard many fanciers saying they don't worm because their birds don't have worms, but until you treat them with the correct wormer you wont know they have them, I got a shock the first time I wormed mine with the correct stuff, it was like an explosion in a spaghetti factory.
I think worm infestation is greatly under estimated, it is a bigger problem than some fanciers think. |

That's what I thought Hal. I am going to build a false floor in the box. Jigsaw out a hole so the watered can seat lower. Spray foam the interior around the water with low pressure foam. I'm hoping the water temp will remain warmer higher up the bowl. I do this beaver trapping. Once I chainsaw through the ice, I build up a shallow bowl, and cover it lightly with spruce boughs. It will keep the ice on in -50F windchills. Worth a shot, I will send a picture of the gear source I'm using. Low profile so the watered can remain lower. |

| The tub is a little giant rubber three quart. I have never ruined one in thirty years or so. Even with the bucket of a tractor. They are cheap too, 2.99 a piece. I've decided to use them for nest bowls |

| Most rearing food pellets or mash or crumbles has DE in it. Kills worms. Rom. Rubber nest bowls. No absorbtion. Unless one puts in enough sand, grit etc,. |

That's what I did. About six quarter inch holes. I've got wool to line the nests. Going to wrap them in newsprint. |

I made a few of those too. I don't like them though for some reason. I just bought these El cheapo fronts. I should have made some, but everything is fluid. Haven't even screwed them together yet. The cocks got choosey right away. |

| The old bureau looks trashy, but I couldn't help sticking it in the loft. A little extra nest options. |

| The birds do not care. Cardboard boxes on the floor would do. |

I'm going to do that too. One the floor under the 45 degree braces. |

| All they need is their own small space to nest in. Too much room they may have to fight. Smaller space easier to defend. Nest boxes here 24 inches by 16 high. 16 inches deep. 15 boxes (stock loft and yet still some nested on the floor. Whatever makes them happy. |

Rom. Rubber nest bowls. No absorbtion. Unless one puts in enough sand, grit etc,. I suspect so Hal But if Rom was to drill a few holes in the bottoms etc, then add some small blocks of wood underneath as such or even those chair stoppers people use for them to breath & then use hay/straw type of thing it could all work I suspect. At the end of the day there, a learning curve thing I suspect for Rom, being his first year . ***** |
