Not quite as cold as Roms weather. But anyway, after lights on paired about last week in November. Wanted them to hatch Dec 28th which some did. Pairing up ( all in together pick own mates ) few degrees below freezing. Then the next few weeks were very cold. Minus 10 C and lower. Some left there eggs after 10 days. Maybe they realised they would not hatch? Or cocks claiming boxes. No sure. Hatching time just looked for egg shells. Far too cold to be lifting them off the nest. 5 or 6 pairs nested on the floor eventually. Warmer in straw. Had a few days of minus 28 C. Water well even froze. And that is a deep well. Last few days have been above freezing but down to minus 15 tonight. Couple of days then above freezing again. Plus 6 for the weekend when I wean. Most years not so many problems. But this new loft is cold. So lessons leaarned. Next year if I breed early nest boxes wll be full of straw. I am pulling down one loft, 24 x 8 feet. Maybe put up a 6 x 8 for YB's. Usually a 2 day job.
