| Flyaway, Certainly did not have your means of expressing yourself at your age, however, by that time I had had numerous animal pets, racing pigeons from 7 years old, ferrets, bantams, rabbits,several wild birds, canaries,dog, mice etc;
All kept in good condition in make shift assorted premises made by hand from asnything one could lay their hands on.
Never heard one complaint from any of the animals.
From day one I learned you cannot beat nature, keep as close to and you will have few problems, attempt to improve on it and ????.
Never had one complaint from any animal I ever kept.
As for nest boxes or anything else just consider nature, have you seen a wood pigeon or a townie using a nest bowl or a nest box, some of my pigeons have built on a box perch and also on the deep litter.
Many things used by latter day fanciers are for show and nothing to do with a pigeons requirements.
Keep things as simple as possible and the pigeons will be happy, fill them full of rubbish and keep them in clinical conditions and you will have nothing but problems.
Hope you manage to settle some but it will not be easy, the best way would be to let them breed where they are and take the young, the ones in the present position know how to look after themselves.
Good luck'
Regards.

| So with all the assumptions going on here thought I would make a few of my own.
First I assume that since you came to this site that you want to do right by the birds and are prepared to do what you can
Second I assume everyone that suggested to just through straw on the floor or you don’t need all the fancy stuff like nest boxes or nest bowls, all have these things.
If you want to catch those birds go ahead, if think your ready. They will settle down fairly quick. I have kept wild pigeons when I was your age and still keep a few to experiment with different colours. Fastest way to tame ‘em down is with appetite, don’t starve them just keep ‘sharp soon they will be waiting for you to come through the door. You may never get them tame enough to eat from your hand but their baby will.
It’s been said that pigeons will nest on the floor this is true but not natural, have a look in the barn and see where they nesting. They are nesting off the floor in a spot where they feel safe not out in the open.
If it were me I would catch one pair give them a nest box and a couple perches. Get a bag of layer ration from peavey mart it ‘s 12$ a bag it will last 2 birds a long time, something to give them water in and enjoy the hell out of them you will learn so much by sitting on a pail in the loft and just watch them. Who knows you might catch the genetics bug and try to breed different colours or whatever. If it don’t work out and becomes a chore then just open the door and walk away, no harm done.

| you can make a pigeon drinker from 2 small bucket type containers cut one down to about 3 inches high then keep the other bucket whole but cut windows out and place it over the 3 inch one which will hold the water so that it stops the water from getting dirty or full of debris ...be careful with the knifes though atb ps not my idea but my grandfathers when I had my first birds 40 years ago in a box next to his loft |

| I was just thinking about that the other day Darren, when I was emptying the ice out of my drinkers......sometimes in the past they have cracked because of the ice, so I was thinking what I would do in an emergency ..... I thought the same as you, a depatagoon tub would be ideal.....it has a removable lid to pour water in, and to keep the birds out......and also to cut round the sides squares/oblongs to allow the birds to drink. |

| just shows pigeon keeping can be done cheaper, rather than expensive........and as our misty says, some fanciers make pigeon keeping/racing harder than it needs to be. |
