| Looking at the results of many races this year it is obvious something is not according to the norm.
There are many good fanciers, mediocre fanciers and others, and losses are usually down to either the pigeons not being good enough for the test asked of them or not being prepared in a proper manner.
This year has seen numerous losses of pigeons that have proven themselves previously and in what one could call reasonable conditions, and from short races.
Raptors are a problem but you cannot blame them for all the losses so there is something amiss that is affecting both good and bad pigeons.
When you have a problem the usual action is to try and identify and then deal with it.
Individual fanciers who are concerned have no chance of doing anything about it. it needs a collective assessment of the situation and a collective response.
The RPRA as the governing body should be taking on this problem and seeking some answers, even if it means using outside sources for help.
They have wasted thousands of pounds on the dead duck, Raptor Alliance with no chance whatsoever of it making one iota of difference, because even if raptors were reduced in numbers they would still be a problem and there is no chance of doing so anyway.
If some action is not taken and soon ???????.
Regards.

| Is there any wonder the sport is going down hill, there was a time when if you got a youngster in you immediately attempted to return it to it's own loft before it became settled to the wrong one, and this did happen fairly often when lofts were in close proximity on allotments etc;
Cannot understand the mentality of some present day fanciers.
Regards.

| Misty, by and large if a youngster, or old bird stray came in you were pleased to be of a service and helpful and report it. Mind, having said that, many a stray was raced, and some won... |

| Yes, DAz, many a friendship began with reporting a stray, I corresponded with several from doing so, I only ever had one reported and sent back in a box but lost, as everyone does, a certain amount, think mine lost ended up in stock lofts, or what they thought better accommodation with the ferals.

| yes I agree misty, I looked after a stray abut 6 weeks ago, flown down she was so kept it in a box while she recovered.....fed her up until I thought she could get back home to Essex, the day came for liberation and sure enough later that day the owner phoned me to say she had arrived back home. the owner and me have been in touch every week since, having a chat about how things are going with the pigeons.........its surprising how this hobby bonds people, with a common interest . |

| Nice to see anyone win and it is better if things go round.
But I just cannot understand the vast differences in the velocities.

More the norm Misty on average these days I suggest unfortunately, with so many small type clubs around etc. For what I've seen since the electronic clocks come on the scene, & for some strange reason & in many cases the birds just don't home now as quick as before there time as such . ***** |

| I think if more birds were sent in the club, the velocities would be more even among the first birds, those birds we are seeing now in the top 6 which have the slowest velocities would not normally be in the results if more birds went........that's my opinion anyway |

| Drag you mean Dave? Once believed, still is by many, that the bigger the drag will pull the rest the same way... till the good birds break that is! Often used is Antwerp as an example. But the real thing there is surely that it has a very strong membership in a small area. The terrain that means that they come in low and scatter last moments at the out skirts.
Some truth maybe Dave, for when our club went on its own our club certainly improved. We had far better returns than most. Better results in Nationals. - I flew again 7 - 9 national winners plus some other very good section winners. Mind we flew Fareham every week! purely to get that supposedly great line. Other club's members queued up to join our club!
Indeed 3 other feds came about as others were LEAVING the old fed! Other feds also wanted us to send with them to bolster their transporters. Good terms offered too! |

| I would say drag would be the reason other clubs within our fed had faster times, but just within our club, I would say that some of the birds in 4th, 5th 6th place etc would be at the bottom of the sheet if more members sent, and more birds were sent...
we are only getting 4 and 5 members sending 30 - 40 birds, which is a lot less than 2 years ago ..... |

| Get your point David and would feel it is a good point if the same people win every week and the velocities vary the same every week.
Meaning that if their were other better fanciers in the club those presently getting a place would not be involved, but that would still not explain the differences in the velocities.
But to me the vast differences suggest that something is amiss they are too far adrift.
