| Tough racing in this neck of the woods, birds up at 1-15pm and had a strong westerly on their nose all the way home, sent 16 and up till dark we’ve had 14, birds knew they were in a race today, same race point last week we were clocking 1hr 49minutes, this week we were clocking 2hr 28 minutes and the birds were wrecked, wings down and lost a fair bit of body, but at least they’re home, time to build them back up so a bit of r&r for the weekend, won’t know how we did in the club till next week |

Different beast required I suggest at times Lofty when the wind is on their nose etc. Hope you get your last 2 there, but if not you have 14 it appears that were prepared to put in by my standards & so you survive hopefully for better times down the track, maybe . ***** |

| I had to cancel out this weekend. 30 unflown to send. Wind up their backsides. Any thing can win. Weather forecast for a tough weekend next race. So did not ship. Also change of plan. Will train 40 miles am. Then again whatever good day. Maybe 2 next week. Cannot get more than an hour and half fly out of them. So next week 155 miler. First race for 30 plus. More dependable on what to keep than a blow home. |

| Got mine up and away early morning. Heat and humidity were harsh. Had to cut back to 20 miles. Came in good time. But finally ticked off numbers of what is here. 38 left to race. (8 out of 15 from last week included.) Checked all their flights. All can go next week. 155 miler. Looking good so far. Thunderstorms every day for next four or 5 days so was happy to get them on the road. Hate catching so many though! |

| Beats me why fanciers only train in ideal conditions and then expect the pigeons to contend with the unexpected.
Some of the best fanciers I have known train in almost any weather.
Common sense being the deciding factor.
I never trained other the on the very odd occasion and that was to suit me and that was when the fed trained in their transporter, which was like a little race. or with a friend who trained the North Road birds. Complete open loft and there is no need to train.
Never actually raced many, most ever 20 and that was testing the young birds..
I would agree that to breed only a few when we are all aware that only a small minority of those bred are potential winners is a gamble but if you have an established family and know their peculiarities it is far easier than breeding hundreds from hopefuls you have to feed and look after them all and a few you can know them as individuals
Catching them for racing, just shut the loft up the night before and with a handful of peanuts, they were easy prey, I never sent a pigeon to a race starving.
What I have always said, " Fanciers for several reasons have turned a very simple and easily participated in sport into a seemingly minefield that needs bottomless pocket and degrees in several sciences.
Sad so very, very, sad.
Regards.
