Pairing Up 2021

hoping to pair up in the next couple of weeks, will need to make some nest boxes for one of the sections in the new loft, just have box perches in there at the moment........will order some 8 x 4 sheets of 12ml ply sheets and maybe a 6 - 8 ml sheet for the back .

my garage is full of cr*p boosey, would have been sheltered and dryer if i could have built them in there .....will just have to hope for a bit of better weather .

David shop around you might be able to get them already made for not much more than you'll pay for the wood alone.
Seen them on ebay for £75 widowhood boxes in blocks of 4 which tempted me but they were just too wide for the section I'm using so i built my own.
Not sure how many sheets of ply you need but last 12mm sheet of decent grade I ended up paying best part of £20. Then you got the 5mm stuff to buy for the backs on top of this.
Just a thought? I know generally it's good to make your own stuff but if time is against you?

Our supplier of ply etc; will cut to size, does charge but all you would have to do is put together straight away.

Maybe worth a thought.

Paired about 17 pair of stock and still some to do ... definitely over stocked again haha

yes thats what i did a few years ago misty, i gave the local timber supplies the measurements, and they cut it all to size, only problem was, because of the thickness of the blade on the machine, some pieces were not to size.......i took a few pieces back and they re cut new ones at no cost, but i got the impression they wernt happy .

17 pair & you call yourself a chook farmer type etc Ray . Boy oh boy could I teach you a thing or two down here when talking numbers in the breeding loft at breeding time, in certain local lofts .

The truth is out at last it appears now David with our beloved Ray I could suggest somehow I suspect, he has been reading my man Walkers book as such, on the finer points of breeding quality, maybe . Now you had a query here some where being, do I trust my local politician types down here. Yes, on average about as far as I can spit on a good day      when I'm not huffing & puffing from my Asthma here .

105  was the most ever had but that went down to 80 ish rapidly as a few we didn't like

had 3 pairs lay last night ,first of the year must of been waiting for the cold snap to pass ,looks like a few more will lay tonight its nice to get um all near same age eh ,well hopefully

Always found breeding one of the most enjoyable parts of the sport.

Predicting the colour of certain pairings young I found very enjoyable, always had pieds and believe me they could throw anything from black to white.

Never had problem with pairing up, never changed the pairings once paired.

Think very few breed a large percentage of winners and you may just part them when the winners would have been bred.

Like anyone else bred many that did not fit the Bill but enough for me  to get out more than I put in.
