The possibilities involved in this matter leave one very concerned. Top fanciers send their best these races ??????. Regards. |

| The RPRA now have the best opportunity to attempt to find out just what happens when large losses are encountered.
The income from the sale of assets would enable several experiments regarding losses and just where lost pigeons end up.
Until now it is just guesswork, raptors, sun, wind, rain, magnetic field etc;etc;
They could tag every pigeon and know where every pigeon was during a race.
Even with 2,000 pigeons involved in each of several experiments the costs would be worth the while and is fancier's money, enough of which over the years has been wasted with not one item of benefit obtained.
You would know exactly where every pigeon was and the probable reason for losses, at the end of the races.
But then we are talking RPRA.
Regards.

| Where are the race results lads, good bad or indifferent, always nice to know what is going on that is what it is all about.
How goes the losses etc;
Late commers etc;
How is the actual season panning out early on ?.

| I think that when you take up any sport you should have an objective to achieve.
It is obvious for numerous reasons not all can attempt to achieve the same.
Set your sights too high and disappointment will be the result, too low and a waste of time.
My own was to win from every race point both North and South that the clubs I was in flew with both young and old birds.
Almost did not make it, won from many race points many times but Dunbar YB illuded me until the last year I raced.
Gave me as much satisfaction as all the others put together.
However, you can enjoy our sport if you just want to enjoy our feathered friends in a none competative manner as long as that is all you want and can give as much pleasure as winning races.
Like having a young person having a pony, bet thousands get more pleasure than the race horse owners who end up with also rans.
Funny old world.
Regards.

Should not be encountering losses from these short distances. Time some real money and attention needed to find out just what happens to those that go astray. Still just a load of guesswork Then again, it might suit some commercial parasites. Regards. |

| Every other sport I can think of Knackered has progressed on a continued basis for the benefit of all participants during the past 60 years.
Our sport has actually gone backwards regarding fair play and attention to the sports problems.
I believe the membership will be lucky to be 10,000, you cannot get an answer from the RPRA, if so, 50,000 have been lost in next to no time.
The subs for 10,000 will not cover even the pensions of employees, never mind the wages.
More money spent on meetings to have cosy little week ends, to work out how they can waste money on Hall Reports and Raptor Alliances etc;
There is only one reason this has been allowed, APATHY of the I'M ALRIGHT JACKS.
Cannot think the sport can survive in this manner for very long and those responsible will have had their day and could not care less.
Think the whole thing is a pathetic disgrace.
Regards.

| Looking back to the early 40s I can recall the activities other than pigeon racing that were part and parcel of the miners and other working classes.
Whippet racing was popular, but basic, used a bike adapted to pull an artificial lure for the dogs to chase, betting was preverlant amongst miners even betting on tossing coins in the air, watched them on the odd occasion.
Football was followed and played both professional and village like.
Every miner's club had snooker tables.
Every pub had dart boards.
Schools had football and cricket teams.
Horse racing was underway and miners had a bob or two on them in bets.
There were other activities too.
Pigeon racing was as popular amongst miners as any sport and there was many thousands involved.
Every one of the above activities other than the whippet racing are now in a brilliant financial and numerical position and the whippetts replaced by greyhounds, maybe the tossing of coins maybe gone.
OH I FORGOT, pigeon racing has gone backwards.
Due in my opinion to a few self interested individuals more interested in the socialising with their like and not even proper active fanciers in some cases.
There is maybe a glimmer of hope.
Get rid of the whole present set up and in particular the present Council.
Have votes, INDIVIDUAL, simplest thing and should have been done for every AGM or any changes but the Clique would lose control, regarding the future of the sport.
Needs a complete re-think.
Will put some ideas forward later.
Regards.

| Them WERE the days George, would not have missed them for anything.
The whole World is in a diabolical state David and beyond man's means to solve.
However, I was pointing out that the likes of darts, snooker. cricket, football and even dancing etc; are all now household names involving millions not thousands of individuals whilst our sport is all but lost.
If you have the same people influencing everything for many years you end up like our sport has.
Regards. |

| misty what i was trying to say was no matter what changes brought in 60-80 years ago would make no difference to pigeon racing to-day and there really is nothing can be done now it is no longer of interest to young people so just let those that race get on with it for what few years the sport has left |

| even when i was younger there were pigeon lofts all over the area, lofts on nearly every street, now hardly any ......its hard to imagine pigeon racing lasting very much longer really .
a few years, maybe 10 - 15 but imagine how few fanciers there will be then . |
