thats right john, aim for the top ones and even if you dont win as long as your there abouts and near them you are on the right track......i know i will be lucky to get a first but even if i canget a result ill be happy enough and its just a matter of building up a team over a few years like the top men have done... |

hi steve, some top flyers are........for various reasons sometimes tho, but if they are genuine and are helping a new starter listen to what they tell you and if you think its good advise apply it to your birds.......hope you do know him off his perch steve. |

| Everyone is there to be beat, pick out the best flyers they are the ones that will motivate you , to motivate ur birds to beat them, You kniow when you are beating them because u dont finish infront of them once but are doing it consistantley, they saying goes you will only get back what you put in, put the time effort and dedication in you will get ur rewards, Ken |

Ken ken, when we have had disscussions before about % birds or fancier.....and we all have different views on this, you have just hit on a major point as motivation, the good flyer who i bought these new birds from someone told me that he could win with a fantail as he can motivate anything to win.....what do you think ? |

thanks for jumping in ray and giving your opinion........yes i agree the birds must be capable of winning but do you think the reason why sometimes fanciers dont do any good is because they cant/dont motivate correctly ? |

| David Motivation plays a major part, in preparing ur birds for the race, The fancier needs to know what he is doing, ne knows what works for what bird so acts accordingley, love of home plays apart, training plays apart, some fanciers will only train upto first old bird race then not train again but rely purely on motivation, others will give the birds the odd training chuck if they think the birds need it, others will train old birds everyday throgh out the old bird programme, each as a different route, notice i havent mentioned y/bs that is a different game altogether Ken
P,S Ray is also right you do need good birds, birds that race home and not home, but u still need to motivate the good birds Ken |

| David first of all youngbirds are everyones new stock, champion birds dont always breed champion young, To start with watch ur young birds , even very young birds will tell you if they have a brain, watch them when they are flying around the loft watch which ones pick a perch and defends that perch, Young birds need to be schooled well, before they get to that starting line, train them in small groups of say 6 at a time teach the birds to be leaders not followers, train them on the line of flight to get them going, when u have them say 30 miles and are comming out of the basket and heading straight for home , start following the wind if west in wind train east of flight to make them head into it and visa versa east wind train west of flight, Young birds will fly with the wind rather than against it here u are teaching the birds to break rather than flying past and working their way back, once racing starts i still train every day except sat race day sunday is rest day Ken |

| No i train on my own, David as u know im a early morner trainer, 2 reasons i have the sky to myself plus i can feed them before i go to work at 07.00. Mine never have a mass release untill the first race whether this is a good thing i dont know its just something ive always done Ken |

Ken well ken,if this method works for you, and i know it does.....why change it. ive heard quite a few fanciers train in this way and let them up in small groups at certain intervals. dont fix what isnt broken ken...... |

| They bred early to get the young birds mature for the important races also on the dark they can have a good feather when racing (full wings) |

| I might have to spend time in worcester as Philip has to have ct scan and doctors appointments plus we have to move my son Philip up here, so thats the time they have to go together. The young birds will go on the dark 1st of April. When do you put yours on the dark ?? |
