The club had 5 members participate last week. 141 birds. 160 miles. Bad weather. First bird just over 1014 meters per minute. Did not fly myself. Birds not trained enough. First 4 positions went to an old Belgian guy. He shipped 43 widowhood cocks. Next few were also from a Belgian guy who shipped 30 some, widowhood also. They deserve the win. So numbers do count in some situations. Or not? I did not race last year. But year before sending 10 or 15, cocks and hens on the nest, beat them. Not often but enough. High winds here last few days, rain and hail and thunderstorms. Could not train so will miss this weekend also. Cannot send the next weekend if the birds are not ready will probably scrub the old bird season. Have 20 plus young birds so should be competitive against the flier with 60 or so. Always have been. As always best birds on the day prevail. Friend of mine had quit regular racing few years back. 500 open came up. He figured he had one Fabry cock who looked sharp. sent him. Bird beat all others by an hour! Smart guy to do that!
