hi what are peoples thoughts on natural racing , do you think a well motivated and fit natural team will be able to compete well with widowhood pigeons etc, the reason im asking is i have a section of 12 cocks for this year and 12 hens but have lots to do and no time to do it , i can get 3 x 50 mile tosses aweek in season and i was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this

hi darren, altho i would prefer to race widowhood as i think its easier and less time consuming i do think a good team of properly motivated naturals would be just as good........ive heard that if naturals are sent in the right conditions ie sitting small ybs or eggs etc they can win as well as widowhood cocks. just my opinion tho darren.

i,ve had good results on natural ,but a the shorter races and the very long ones but most of the time the widowhood cocks will beat them .try rondabout darren.let the hens train first then get them straight in ,then get the cocks so they do not see each other at all.the 3 50 mile tosses might be enough if you have no time to let them out

your natural racing is best at long distance racing 500 mile plus thats when the natrual racing comes in to its own

personally i will find racing widowhood easier as once they know the routine and know what it expected of them it wil be straight forward, exercise, maybe a bit of training and then send them......( with the right motivation of course) naturals would need more management and be more of a system a more experianced fancier than me would decide to use.....(if you know what i mean.....)

normally the natural ones over the distance are the better ones when it comes to a harder race or a hold over, most widowhood cocks can fly the longer races now,but i prefer not to race widowhood yearlings or 500 myself

Not being an expert in any system I can only speak from experience. But it seems to me that its all about form and thats what really makes the differance, the widow cocks do seem to hold form longer and are more predictable. Whereas natural its a waiting game and these pigeons come into form slower and for shorter time, everyone knows that some birds come into form when sitting eggs, some on big youngsters and others while driving, thats natural. However a good natural on the right form will compete with widows 100%. The longer the distance, the longer the season, the more cold the weather and with lots of holdovers widows will fail and natural will score.

yes widowhood cocks tend to go off on hold overs, they lose that excitement a bit when in the basket a long time, but again you can be proved wrong with pigeons as we all know
