| Havnt seen a cat for months, now just over a week to the first race and i think someone new must have moved into the area as there's about 3 been around over Easter. My squeekers were out this morning and I saw one sitting on my neighbors back gate just under the overhang of my loft, just poised incase one came to near the edge. I've got a bloody dog to, but there not stupid. I put the cocks food down last night and they all stayed on their perches, so I think it may have been lurking around the vents during the day.
Tonight all 7 cocks on the roof. Great preparation for the first race. He ho that's pigeon racing.
Wished I lived in Canada with Hal.

| yes boosey, sounds like that's the problem......they will unsettle the pigeons if lurking. i have a cat problem, my loft is so far away from the house i cannot keep an eye on them all the time, needless to say once the pigeons are out of the loft I'm always on patrol watching for cats, until they are back in the loft.......it also makes life hard when i take them training, because the pigeons get back before i do, therefor at risk of cat attacks...... |

| I was trying to get them used to roundabout but couldn't get the cocked in. Then thr hens thought they were going out so they wouldn't go back in their section, so spooked them catching them all. |

| Cats were a problem here. Eliminated the problem. For now. So, just have to worry about the usual suspects I have trapped over the years. Possums, coons, weasels, rats and a skunk. The winged ones I do not worry about. Cannot control them. Just trap the odd one. Used to tape a fridge magnet to their head at one time. Never worked. Non-magnetic lead .22 works quite well. |

We had problems at our old loft with those bloody moggies. I went to our local agricultural suppliers and bought some electric fencing wire, the plastic stuff, with fine wire woven into it, and a clicker box (the power unit for the electric fencing). You will also need some plastic fencing stakes. The problem with standard fencing stakes is that the hooks that you put the electric cable through are too wide if you are thinking about keeping cats out, so what you have to do is make the wire go up the stakes in about inch and a half, 3 cm, increments, therefore creating electric fencing lines that are quite close together. I would start the electric unit on a low setting at first, I found that once the cats had had one or two whacks from the fencing wires they didn't come back. Good luck with the feline problem and good luck for the forthcoming racing season. When I was a kid, I used to have a very weak air rifle that I could aim at the cats and if by mistake a pellet should hit the animal it just stings. Of course I wouldn't purposefully aim at a cat lol. Phil |
