First training toss

As above, first one today from 10 miles, 15 going so well see which ones have got it, there are 2 or 3 that may not make the grade but let's see what happens, will let you know later

Good luck lofty, I gave mine their first toss this week from ten miles all 9 home safely, but I did put a yearling hen in with them, for a bit of guidance.

11 out of 15, the 3 I thought may not make it didn't make it lol, the other 1 is a small blue that would have been my choice as one of the first home, weird how things work with pigeons, I hope it makes it though, it's a nice bird. Started raining now so I hope it takes some shelter, birds are looking none the worse for it so they'll be going back Tuesday weather permitting.

It's a scary old time working with youngsters in the early days - it does my head in sometimes.

Keeps us oldies on our toes Phil lol, my son in law was worrying his self sick, God knows what he's going to be like come race day

6 miles a week ago, 12 yesterday. 30 of them. Tuesday 24 miles.

Still no sign of the others, don't look like we'll get them today it's raining heavy now and because we live on one of the highest points in Swansea we get a lot of low cloud, visibility is down to about 100 yards now, bloody weather man didn't forecast this until this evening which is why I gave them a toss early

Glad to see you were prepared to test there brain capacity Lofty . For me  anything less than 10 miles is a total waste of effort, for man or beast as such.

I was told Never train on a Saturday or Sunday - what to members think?

nice and early for me gives them plenty of time to get back also never on a weekend too many racing get dragged away jmo

I have noticed on a few lofts (including yours) 'Lattice work' along the fronts of lofts. Why do you have them and what do they do?

Uneven train young birds on Saturday as they may get swept up by a large mob that are racing and before they know it they're 100 miles away.
On Sunday's there may have been holdovers at certain race points, and there are a lot of people out shooting.

Down here in my area Phil it's the weekend or nothing etc for the working class flyer for the most part, seeing as we race in winter & the day light hours are rather short as such at this time of year now. 2-60 milers, Saturday & Sunday in a unit with about 3000 odd birds going every where tends to get them thinking in the right direction, as long the losses dont catch up with you .

glad to hear everyones yb training has started and doing well.......wont be long now till yb racing starts, looking forward to hearing how everyone does this season.

Got 1 back this morning, not the little blue I was hoping for but all the same, after yesterday's bad weather pleased it made it

never train weekends else you WILL get stung sooner or later I don't train Wednesdays either as a lot of midweeks liberations going over ok that leaves 4 days but that's the way it is here ...happy training guys

hi phil the lattice work is vent grills i also have spinning cowls on roof idea is to keep the airflow going fresh air in lofts in bottom and out the top keep the birds healthy

Maybe not every one David . Local news one of the gurus here was at my place last weekend actually & sells his babies for $1200 a pair to the unwary here decided in his wisdom ??? yesterday to take his late breds "19" for there first toss at 1-1/2 miles because of his losses with his A team which had to be replaced. Unfortunately when he let them all go they all walked out of his baskets & started pecking on the ground as they were some what confused sadly . Still waiting on the final tally sheet for losses there but my bones tell me, things aren't looking good for the poor bloke .
