The 12 I got back from the first toss are looking tidy, so they are going again Thursday from the same place, weather permitting , young bird season is almost here, our first is on 16 July so we need to get them up the road as often as we can

| All the very best to all that are training Young Birds.
This is the time of year I used to like the best, apart from the really long races. When I raced before, I did very well with Y/B's - maybe that is why I liked it so much lol.
In my opinion - the more experience you can give a young bird, the better - you need to vary the direction you train a bit just in case of strong winds or over-flying.

Took mine 24 miles today. Back in good time. 30 plus. Never count them on return. Never worry too much about them. Figure the dummies will disappear. Two strays came back with them. Grizzles. I do not have any. As for training from all directions, never done that for years. Never seemed to make a difference. They get out and fly for 2 hours they see a lot of the area. Besides, I like them coming in a straight line. Some will make mistakes of course but usually the stupid ones. I need leaders not followers same as most people. Most of my yearlings this year were not raced last year. So had too many. Solution? No training after the first race. 200 miles some 250 first time. Out of 18 have 12 left. 10 will go this weekend. So some are a day late. So what? They need the experience for next year. Usually they come singly. They have to think. Did get in the top 10 with them a few times. Never send more than ten a week. Never clock more than one or two. All yearling cocks, flown to the nest. Not for everyone but works for me. They will benefit from this regime next year.

Some people are losing them. Have a stray in from New York. Also one from a club 80 miles North of me. Plus two grizzles with just CU bands on.

Birds up at 9am I got back at 9-30 and 10 birds were 5 minutes behind me, still no sign of the other 2 , one of which was one of the first last week, hoping that one makes it, the other is a little chequer who came the following morning last week, anyway, just 1 more toss from this place and then up to 20 miles
