Intelligent young bird.

Go in to the lofts today to feed them. First loft I have been putting in young birds.
5 older pair in there. So, go in and white young bird moved over 4 days ago rushes up to me and pecks my leg for attention. So drop some feed for him/her. Picks out a safflower seed or two then pecks my leg again. Very unusual! Pick it up. Feels a little light. Go the 12 feet to the other end of the loft. Minus 15 C last night. Water bowl is on a biscuit tin with light bulb inside. Frozen for the most part. So emptied the rim of ice and the water flowed. Put the birds beak in it. It drunk quite a bit.
Was telling me it needed water I assume. Smart bird!

Maybe maybe not etc One could question if the rest found water, why didn't it type of thing. Now race looks interesting Hal Like the bit where the last bird on the day would win 500 dollars. Gives some small hope for the little man maybe & certainly will keep the interest factor up till night fall I suspect.

Others could not drink either. Iced up. Same yesterday, blew light bulb underneath. Yet today sun is out and will get above freezing. Next few days also.

Started back around September last year when I lost a nice red hen in a race from around 350 miles. Month later it turned up, looking as if it had been bush bashing out in the sticks some where with the rubber still on it's leg. Pottered around the garden for a week, just enjoying life & rebooting the body type of thing. Then it just disappeared for 3 days, then turned up . Then after 3 days at home  again it disappeared for 3 days again . Now believe it or not but the scenario I have mentioned went on for over 3 months here on a clock work type basis & the only thing that stopped her from doing her normal thing, was when she went into a heavy type moult which stopped her in her tracks so to speak as I speak. So     for me a strange type pigeon in some ways, but one with character maybe    .

Not big on the last bird scenario Misty it appears. For me all those type of things add an interest factor etc.

I agree Knackered, does add interest, will be interesting how late the winner of the latest timer is, it must be a fanciers first bird I assume.
