| KILL YOUR PIGEONS, I have never heared such rubbish there are fanciers in our club that use it once a week or month or something, but believe me they are not champion flyers and never will be....ask your self the question would you drink it????????? Not me, but I would drink and eat anything I give my birds and do. |

| if you have never used it how do you know its rubbish ? there are plenty of top flyers who swear by it only a couple of drops in the drinker will do the birds no harm it just flushes there system out . yes i know there are pigeon products out there to do the job but like every thing else in the pigeon product range they just rip you off and half of them are crap anyway , all i do is i have a spray bottle and every couple of days i spray the drinker out with the bleach solution and just swill it out . but like we keep saying there are many ways to keep them healthy each to there own . |

Not me, but I would drink and eat anything I give my birds and do. This debate started last year and never heard of it but have asked a few fanciers and the ones who use it are not the top fanciers, so will have to agree with you there Martyn |

| i agree with kev regarding the fact there are a lot of products on the market which are just ripping fanciers off, but to use bleach in the drinking water is madness in my opinion.............ok, a couple of drops to a gallon may do no harm every now and then, but to add any more is crazy. |

| THanks Don, and I agree with David its madness....to say it kills 99% of all know germs is right, including the bird me thinks, Some fanciers have told us to use probiotics to keep birds healthy inside, which Im also not too convinced with..BUT bleach surely kills them too,,,,,,,,, |

| correct ian, each to their own................but as i say i wouldnt use it in any larger quantity than a couple of drops per gallon if i did ever use it. i do wash the drinkers out with it but rinse very well afterwards.
i wonder if our top flyers like lightening etc use bleach in the water, i dont mean or cleaning but as a aid to fitness and at more than a couple of drops......? |

| yes phil, i dont see any harm washing /cleaning using stilton..........and as you say washed out thouroughly does no harm.
i do beleive we should feed our birds as hygenic as possible but i see no need for going to the extreemes of adding bleach to the drinking water. |

| Article on Bleach in Drinking Water
In March 1985 a personal friend of mine, Mr. Ralph Bevan, in an interview with Mr. Ralph V. Forbes for the Racing Pigeon Facts International, wrote one of the best aids to good form according to Ralph is the proper use of bleach in the water. Some years ago Ralph experimented with it in the drinking water and the bath water. He noticed his birds feathering became silkier as the days went by. He added 3 drops of bleach to a gallon of drinking water and 1 capful of bleach to a 5 gallons of bath water. Further to this study in the late '90's, Dr. David Marx also used bleach in his bird's drinking water everyday. His dosage is 1 teaspoon per gallon of water. He feels that it makes the droppings of the birds very acidic, therefore the birds are less likely to pick up any diseases such as Cocci or Canker. He stresses NOT to use anything else when using bleach and only use bleach with no additives. If you must give vitamins or medication of any type just stop the bleach until you have finished the vitamins or medication then you can start the bleach again. |
