| hi birdlady, make sure you have grit available to your birds, i also give pink minerals too........
the type of grit mix i use is called matrix which has alsorts of minerals, small conditioning seeds, brewers yeast and also aniseed...the pigeons love it but its quite expensive being 10 pound per 5kg tub. |

| i always put a egg cup full of dried sea weed in with my grit but this is changed on a daily basis matrix is good but you cant leave it down as the birds gorge on it also i dont find theirs enough oyster shell present within it i do use it but only as a treat i mix my own grit redstone oyster shell clay block and sea weed the redstone already has charcoal mixed in it |

| hi birdlady, im led to beleive the fancy breeds need small seed mixes because of the short beaks........is there also a special breeding mix ? i have used pellets in the past for pigeons feeding ybs and have bred some big healthy ybs....... |

| i am using a versa lagge mix atm....its called small bean an wean...loads of smaller seeds in it....so id think it will probably be ok. i wont worry to much if the eggs dont hatch..i know its a bit late in the yr...but the guy i got them from only took 1 round from them this yr,which is why i let them breed...if they hatch i will be quite happy,as then i have extra birds to work with next yr.
thanks |

| Birdlady if you intend to show your birds it would not be advisable to let them bring up young birds at the moment, I no you have just started with show birds but its only a couple months now befor you will be able to get your rings I think its worth waiting for them to come. |

| i had thought about showing one or two birds this yr....but on thinking about it..i always in the past prefared to show something i had managed to breed myself, rather than bought.i will probably (if i can ever actually find a club) just go and look, see how things are done...been a long time since i was at a pigeon show.. over 30 yrs. so i will just go check out the standard of birds that are being exibited..and try to make some contacts over here.there is a big sales day in the next 2wks..so should be able to make a few contacts at that. |
