| what do you use ...we use pink mineral and more importantly kilpatricks black iodised minerals containing salt, magnesium, charcoal and iodine stops the bird from searching the loft for salt also the charcoal keeps the crop sweet for feeders and ybs alike ,iodine keeps on top of canker and fungal issues and magnesium to replenish laying hens reserves ,a great product for the pigeons all year round but especially for the breeding season these are given in separate pots to the grits and clay block ....what do other members use |

| ive always used pink minerals, but last breeding season I had a couple of hens who seemed to be searching for something, scratting around the loft and looking a bit run down.......on darrens advise I introduced kilpatricks black minerals and this sorted them out, ive used it ever since.
I will also use ropa b liquid throughout the year, even through breeding season. |

| I give grit to my pigeons all year round, but never give minerals. When I used to give minerals to them breeding they never ate any first round but always craved them second round, so I think the birds don't need them until the second round not sure why and don't like the thought of them eating a lot of it while feeding, so stopped it all together and can see no difference in the youngsters or the pigeons. |

| I would give minerals all year round, also throughout breeding, I would do this because like martyn my birds were craving for them during breeding last season, and I think the reason was because if they are not getting any, with rearing ybs it depleats the body`s supply of them therefore they crave them after the first round......JMO |

that's the way I see it too...sometimes the cocks drive too hard and the hens don't get chance to get to any grit/minerals 2nd round they have used up their reserves and need topping up ,pigeons can survive without grit or minerals they can survive on a diet of bread but its not ideal ...each to his own but I like mine to have access 24/7 and 365 days |
