| As some may remember, had a heck of a job getting a half moon tailed Betta to spawn. Was in the tank with 3 different females. Did not see any fry so removed the female each time. Many plants in the tank. He had spawned and some fry survived. Did not know at the time. However, survival of the fittest. They were growing ok on brine shrimp. newly hatched. Today went up to the old silo buried in the ground. Was used years ago as a manure storage tank. 20 years ago. Now full of water. Were I dump coons and stuff I kill. Always duckweed on top. Went and got some today. Just dipped a plastic container in there. Poured some of the water weed in to the fry tank. They went nuts! On closer examination noted the zillion litter critters swimming in there! Daphnia? Water fleas? Mosquito larvea? Do not know but what a site the feeding frenzy! Remainder went in to larger tanks also. Same results! |

| Always thought Mother Nature knows best.
Any animal I kept was based on that.
As for fish, I have had Koi Carp and several other Carp in a pond for over 40 years.
In that time I have bred only a single Koi.
I know they spawn but there must be cannibals amongst them and have no idea who the culprit/s is, are.
Most of their feed is natural from the tank above the waterfall which also holds the UV. and filters etc; where numerous little creatures breed and come down the waterfall.
Do feed them sometimes but only for my own pleasure in watching them, as long as the pump is working they can look after themselves.
Anyone who defies nature is on a loser in the long run.
Regards.

| They are 2 feet up. Always rat bait under. Higher? So dogs can get under? Nope! Reason is simple. Look at the pic of the lake. Then imagine a gale force wind over all that flat ground. Heck, even barns, mobile homes, cottages get blown away! Always some wind, hence the turbines here. Would I change it? Nope. Like the birds, one gets used to it. But bloody expensive for heat come winter! Big house. |
