feeding grit and minerals Empty
PostSubject: feeding grit and minerals   feeding grit and minerals EmptyThu Mar 04, 2021 7:39 pm

now the birds are feeding babies about 5-7 days they're starting to hammer the grit and pickstone mix.

For what it's worth I got a 10kg tub of Ultimax and added 2 x redpickstones, 2 x clay blocks, half bag of kilpatricks black minerals and 2 handfulls of canary seed, mixed the lot and put a couple of half full galley pots in on a morning. By locking up time on night it's just about gone. Another few days and they'll be wanting more but it's balancing the amount as too much salt and they empty the drinkers, pump the youngins with sludge rather than corn.

I've yet to find something similar that the birds just peck at now and again and don't gorge on. They either ignore some pickstone type minerals or destroy them in minutes, no happy medium. What do others use when pumping youngins?
