if you breed early ray would you still need to put them on darkness , would they not be molted out before young bird racing starts ...? |

| One thing is certain in our sport, you cannot put ability into a pigeon that it is not born with, secondly you can ruin a good pigeon with all the desirable qualities by bad treatment, the latter manifestly apparent in our sport.
Would be interesting to have statistics regarding the young on darkness and those not.
Any interfearance with nature will have drawbacks.
Will be interesting to see how things go with the darkness youngsters
Just let us know including the good the bad and the sad hoping all good.
Regards.

| Apparently David that is correct but heard from a good flyer that best to still put them on dark as if not you struggle to get them to last race. Not sure if its correct but need to look more into this |

| The Darkness System has not been around in England for very long.
For all the years before young birds flew the whole programme with no trouble and put up performances equivalent to those of today and went on to win into their almost teens.
Very few health problems were encountered.
We adopted the continental methods and also their health problems.
Very few fanciers do not have to treat their pigeons every year for several problems both curative and preventative.
I used to breed at different times and had young birds at different stages throughout the year.
Ultimately if you mess around with nature you come off second best.
Look forward to following the results of using the darkness system.
One big difference of course I had complete open loft all year round.
Good luck.
Regards.

| Well with having a huge team we need to compete and race them as much as we can . At the end of the day that's why they are there so why not. Hate seeing the darkness ybs on allotments coming before our natural so it stops now haha . |

nor No point at all in having them sat on a perch, we all know only a few have what is needed so all must be tested as much as possible, it is also nice to have a few away much pleasure in seeing each one diving in from a great height after you have clocked the winner. Regards. |

One of the best moments I can remember was seeing a pied cock ( which was a real beauty but with bull eyes and no good for showing) and on it's last season chance of staying in the loft come diving in from a great height out of a large batch to win the race. You cannot buy moments like that. Even keeping a reasonably small team, if you breed only 20 each year you still have to sort them out each year or you would be soon overstocked. Worst part, which I hated was sorting them out. Regards. |

| Ended up with 51 yearling cocks , most ever but I will give everyone of them a chance. It will cost me a fortune but I believe they all deserve a chance after being on natural as ybs . I bet I hit a 100 old birds racing ...I better start saving lol |

| When we had 3 good seasons not long ago I couldn't give my birds away. Beating these top flyers in our fed or club takes some doing but obviously people don't do their homework. We cocked up last season with feeding system but that's been put right now so we'll be back hopefully this season haha . |

| i would think your competition send a lot of birds to a race ray, plus they have good birds.....so youll need a decent size team and good birds to compete with them .
have you ever raced van reets ray ...? |

| I race a big team because our barry buys too many and I want to give them.all a chance as what's the point in having them . Yes raced van reets a few years back. We bought about 4 or mealies, beautiful small to medium birds but not good enough for us |

Just read the following :-
BHW.
petrol 19 62 4s.11p gallon today £14 pint of beer 2s1p today £14 pint of milk 81/2p today £2 TV 67 guinies today £4,000 Average house £2,500 today £150,000.
When I think I paid over £100 each for several stock birds in the late 60s and culled some of them they would pro rata be now around £5,000 each.
Mind boggles.
Regards.

. 5,000 pound or roughly 10,000 dollars down here today etc Misty crazy figures I'm by my way of general thinking. Old mate, toss partner here for many years back when, just donated one of his Fed winners this year to his clubs squeaker sale recently, made $2,100 for his club apparently & I thought that was a sign of sheer madness by the new owner of the highest order as good as the pigeon was. |

| Think what happens in many cases, a fancier is disappointed in his/her results and decides, based on adverts, to buy some infallable breeders of winners.
Having paid over the odds he/she decides to change their methods and use better everything and gets some good results.
Had they done the same with those they got rid of ????.
Regards. |

| true george, just because a pair have bred a winner, it doesnt mean they will breed another winner, or a string of winners ......they might never breed anything of worth again . |
