| Would not worry about concrete floor.
As no doubt he will use some kind of litter and powder lime based.
My loft has a 9" concrete base with breezeblock upstand all round.
But also had sand and lime deep litter.
If you ever order concrete just look what is involved in a cube.
I ordered two and had to phone friends to bring wheel barrows and give me a hand before the concrete went off.
Did the drive and loft at the same time.
Regards.

| yes misty, getting a pile of ready mixed concrete and having to move it before it starts going off is a scary prospect .........you need a few people and wheel barrows at the ready thats for sure . |

Yes it is nice to have good friends and not the fair weather type. Up to the kneck in it again. Car clutch went again, only had new one around Christmas time, could not understand it and then the penny dropped. I go out about three or four times a day for one thing or another and always go onto the drive, next door has three or four cars and takes up all the area of our front garden, which makes getting out precarious and you have to ride the clutch to weedle out every time because although we live opposite school idiots come down as though it is race track. My friendly garage man who I have know for many years picked it up and will return it on Tuesday From now on will park on the road. You take cars for granted until you have not got one . OH HAPPY DAYS. Regards. |

Sand and lime warm all the time, would never ever think of not having deep litter on a concrete floor, I had the same litter for 40 years sharp sand and builders lime. 5" deep, left droppings that went on it and they became part of the litter. Cleaned perches and nest boxes and disposed of the droppings.also dusted perches and nest boxes with lime. After initial health problems never had any for many years, never ever had young bird sickness or any other illnesses. But I also used garlice every day in the water. If I was young and started again I would use exactly the same methods. Regards. |

| I started using garlic every day in the water after reading about it being given to Roman soldiers every day, this many years ago before laptops and other technology, only books etc; were available.
Just put garlic and Roman soldiers on the laptop and up comes an explanation and background to it's use in many cultures.
Yet fanciers have health problems every year with their pigeons and go on creating new illnesses because of the commercial boys and old wives tales.
Just have a read.
Regards.

| We've got a concrete floor in the kitchen, always the coldest room by far. Nicest room in the stifling hot weather though.....if it ever turns up |

wayI lookedcatmatterswas.
heard it said many times ray but probably ok with a well maintained deep litter but if your doing that then just aswell scrape out eh ...but still does not appeal to me either ...george thats a fine pair of ybs your sending and you can do no more than that so i hope you get a bit of luck and they do well for you but they look great i have to say The way I look at maters is do I want a loft of pigeons that suffer year after year with YB sickness, canker and several other common diseases to many fanciers pigeons, learn all the so called preventatives and cures and become an adviser on pigeon problems and cures etc; to other fanciers or have a loft full of healthy pigeons. I chose the latter and adopted what nature tells us. Pigeon droppings are not detrimental to the pigeon, thev are of benfit. The old dove coats were cleaned out once in a blue moon, the little holes they nested in were rarely even bothered with other than to collect the young for the table, never heard of any health problems. Once clinical conditions and spotless lofts started so did the problems. Would not believe any fancier who has a clinical loft if he/she said they did not treat for and use preventatives for several diseases, worms, etc; and have health problems. Took ten minutes a week to rake the deep litter over and incorporate any droppings and maybe a touch of lime, as the pigeons were on open loft many droppings were outside the loft. Took a few minutes to clean the perches and dust them with lime. Would much prefer having healthy pigeons than know how to cure sick ones. Regards. |
