| David I exercise my ybs at every opportunity before during and after training, and I train bettween races its risky but a must if you want to win, however with all the yoiung perigrines about its become very dicey here now training everyone is getting hit daily, I have nearly as many injured birds as racers now. |

| I have 2 broken legs, 2 tails missing, 1 whole in the crop, 1 bump under wing, 2 bumped on the chest, and thats before the second race this week, so who knows how many more before the season ends, and I havent finished training my second rounders. |

| I was advised by a successful local fancier to exercise before each training toss as it takes the edge off of their inclanation to fly about when they get home - they're more inclined to trap well. I've tried to heed this advice and it's worked for me so far, but, as, up until today, I've been training in the evening it's been pretty easy but now I'm sending them in the morning on the club training trailer it's not so easy as they fly for too long in the morning - I guess I'll have to get up earlier to let them out earlier in order to get them in on time to go for their training chuck.
Ideally my preferance would be to let them out for a fly in the morning, again in the late afternoon before trapping them in on some very light seed before taking them on a training chuck in the early evening around 6 to 6:30ish. JMO as there's less chance of clashes, BOP's seem to be less aggresively active and the birds have had plenty of exercise and want to be home for their feed.

| hi steve, i too was told to exercise before training but as i told graham they went off for hours and it was too late to take them to the club trainer as he collects at 10 am........i would prefer to exercise in the morning with a training toss in the evening but this would mean me taking them myself rather than the club training.
its conveinient sending them with the club as i can be home waiting when they get back and less chance of them being attacked by cats etc.......... |

| mine are still at about 3 miles ,but i,m not bothered one bit,,,i will move them on next week.i want mine to break thats all, like i,ve said before its not about distance in my eyes .each to their own i will hear you say,but i,m just giving my advice..i think people just panic when it comes to training thinking the further the better ,i changed my opinion on that theory over the years...i trained my both ways and it makes no difference to me..i think no more than 25 to 30 miles but like i said thats just my opinion..plus i let mine out now before they go training |

| 1st toss from 25 miles today all 28 returned together 35 mins and trapped well, going to keep them at this distance until racing starts in 2 weeks time.it seems to be that these early training flights are paying off (6.45 am lib) as i have not seen 1 batch of birds other than mine whilst on the road so it seems to be cutting out any clashing |

| my club training costs £2 a basket, maybe it could go up slightly when they go to bawtry but not sure..........im only training 12 birds so its cost me £10 to have 5 traing tosses this week, which is nothing compared to if i had taken them myself............. |

| From what you guys are saying it seems we're really well off in Telford with our club trainer charging just 10p a bird to go either 25, 30 or 40 miles - I couldn't believe it, 90p a day to send my 9 training, result Obviously when i was training them it was costing me quite a bit more but I only took them up to 20 miles and I had the option of what time of day to take them. Good luck to you all for the upcoming YB season. |

| Steve that cost is fine but you have to consider are the pigeons coming on the correct line of flight if so then this is fine but if not then you would have to train them yourself so they are on the correct line mate then put them on with the local trainer just to make them work there heads
All the best |

| Luckily Don it is, I'm with the Gloucester Fed and our trainer takes them down through Hartebury, Worcester and Great Malvern, which is 40 miles away. My only concern is that my first YB race is from Swainswick (Bath) which is 90 miles so quite a big jump from Great Malvern so I'm intending to take them to Birdlip in Glos on Weds - fingers crossed. |

| Steve Malvern is the best place for them my father who still flys also flys in the Gloucester fed, his club is the Tibbington FC ( but we don't get on anymore)
Would not worry about the distance because the pigeons will be dropping out of the fed as close as worcester mate so if you live in Telford i bet your the longest flying club so your birds would have top race home the last 10/15 miles on there own mate and they have already covered the ground in training mate
They will be fine mate
When i raced with my dad i only ever trained from worcester when i had given them a good schooling down to cheltenam then i would bring them back to worcester and keep them there
Hope thei helps out mate |
