| Train them hungry. No matter if your birds are pairing up. more motivation. Took 20 today any thing with 3 flights gone. 10 stayed back. Younger ones.Good weather. Cool for this time of year, 75 F. Headwind about 10 miles per hour. Got to the 12 mile station, first toss usually and said hell with it. Weather is good enough so took them to 25 miles. 50 minutes for the first 12, on line. Others came slower. Different directions. 1 hour 10 all back. Some did not trap but circled the loft for 20 minutes. Another 25 miles tomorrow then a day off. basically open loft, open country. Daily old and young fly out together. May not work for every one but works for me. So far. |

- Hello lads enjoying the post, I've been going hard at it on the training and I'm having same problem David there doing very little loft exercise! But training well, I'm been told I'm feeding to much I feed an ounce a day and I'm finding there still very hungry, personally I'd like to let them eat and when finished take food away, I find my Birds fly better this way, can anyone put me right? How's it going Edgie just wondering do you think if you stop Training after first race you can keep up with the pack with loft trading and motivation? I might try it seems my Birds are well schooled and Know what they have to do now. Can I ask has this method worked for anyone before? Sorry about all the questions just curious, you know the way it is everyone telling you different things but what your saying there makes sense to me. Cheers lads my Birds resting tomorrow, loft trading Saturday morning then basketing Saturday night for Sunday race.
Having a curious mind is a good thing Joe "keep it up" but by my understanding of your position when you fly in your club, you are pushing against a head wind (Strong) if you wish to compete week in week out type of thing there. Far better to concentrate on doing what's required so you have better returns on race day than normal. Because I would suggest, if you wish to fly well in the short races you will tend to pay a heavy price down the track etc & all will be for nothing, sadly. |

yes joe by all means keep them hungry when you train, they will trap quicker on there return, to be fed, (but) give them what they want as they are growing still, if you use barley in the mix, then use that as your guide, when they turn there noses up at barley then give no more ?. |

| don't take my word on it joe, but I think if your ybs are being trained hard they need more than 1 oz each per day.....
if I was training very hard I think the best way to feed ybs is to put plenty down and when maybe 1/3 go to the drinkers then remove the food....JMO |

| Took mine same spot as yesterday. 25 miles. Let them go at 8 am. 88F and very humid. No wind. Boy did I get worried! 2 hours before they came back! Few later stragglers. Hazy, no cloud. High up some smoke from the forest fires from the North West territories. Huge fires. Over a 1000 miles North. Oh well miss tomorrow and take them back again. Just when one thinks they are doing good training these burps occur. Why this is such a mind bending hobby at times. |

| im with don on this one weather you feed the birds to the drinker or not its what there eating and hand full by hand full will tell you more ie keep feeding what they want they wont move till there crops are full but feed with barley in and you will note they slow down most will look for the bits they want thats the time to stop feeding each to there own but barley has no equal as reguards feeding pigeons for good or bad |

| maybe I was being a bit rough in my calculations don, but when I had 30 ybs (got 27 now) I would wait while maybe 5 or 6 went to the drinker and then removed the corn......while these 5 or 6 went for the water some of the others were still eating as if hungry, and as we all know every pigeon is different so I think the best way is to always watch them eating and treat accordingly........JMO |
