Hi, I can only seem to post here but any advice would be good thanks, I picked up a baby pigeon from the road that had been kicked out of a nest. It had a bad head injury and was shaking lots so I took it to a vet who fixed it up and when I picked it up the next day, I fed it cat food from a bottle, it seemed to have a good feed but then was shaking lots afterward, I think it swallowed lots of air. After a few hours, it had what looked like an air bubble under it's wing. I took it to the vet later on that day and it had to be put down. What could have caused the bubble? I've read ruptured air sack/crop full of air? Or could it be that it swallowed to much air? There are lots of nests near where I live and want to know what to do if I find another one. Thanks Sent from my iPhone

welcome to the forum Lauramacleod1, sounds like a feral baby, these are usually not very healthy to start with due to their life style etc......an injured baby from the nest would be pretty hard to keep alive anyway I would imagine.

With it having a head injury it may not have survived, but top marks to you for looking after it the way you did

I would say a baby wood pigeon pulled from its nest by a crow seen it many times the crow attacks them pushing them out the nest that's why you could see an injury on its head probably pecking wounds I have seen crows and magpies rampaging in packs up and down the street after chicks from nests if I see them in the trees around me I give them a blast of the laser pen they don't like that nature can be so cruel at times but well done for trying

Thanks so much, I just felt so guilty for it dying (I'm such a softy with animals) is it possible I killed it by over feeding it or pumping to much air in it from the bottle? Or is the air sac bubble not related to feeding? It just seemed to be struggling a lot after the feed. I really enjoyed looking after it though, I may have a new hobby

And btw you're right, it was a crow. It sadly kicked the other baby out and killed it! Why do they do this?

crows will eat baby pigeons ...next time get some rearing pellets for chickens or turkeys and make a paste with water and feed to the pigeon the crop is where the food goes not the air sac atb
