| Opened my eyes George when I asked Bill Carney to judge our eye sign class.
He had a set up that enlarged the eye and explained all the different aspects involved.
No one can do that with the pigeon in the hand and no light.
Best family of recent times were the Van Weyers for eyesign.
Regards.

It does matter George. You only need one pigeon you bring in to have a contagious disease and your whole loft ruined. Easier to bring a problem in than solve one. It is of course your own business what you do but I have always considered any advice given. Just hope you have a good hatch and a champ results. Regards. |

| i had to bring them in misty had too many unraced birds i should have brought in more cocks only have 2 that raced i see no difference in what i did than buying 6 or 12 ybs from a loft in fact i think i did the correct thing also some of my birds are 11 years old now |

| You know your circumstances George .
11 years old is a fair old age so you must be doing something right.
As long as you are happy with the results.
But I always tested the health of any stock bird I introduced and culled some I had paid a good amount for, well worth it in the long run.
Each to his own.
Regards. |

Never said you went wrong George. Just that you have to be careful introducing new stock regarding potential health problems. I enjoyed the breeding part as much as any part. Many good pigeons are the result of getting a kit of well bred young birds. That is what I did, but they have to be tested for both breeding and racing and culling is a must, or you end up with too many duffs. The point is the ONLY test is down the road, fads, likes and dislikes are the wont of every fancier but that is all they are. Just enjoy yourself George. Will look forwards to the results of your pairings this year and lets hope we have no problems. Regards. |

What are you doing with the youngsters this year George. Think way back you mentioned possible OL entries. Is there a fancier you know who would test the others seems a pity not to give them a chance to shine. Believe David suggested doing what he does on the auction site. Not long to go now and time waits for no man (or woman) Regards. |

| thanks that reminds me to ring rpra to-morrow as they have not confirm my 2 birds yes think i will sell them the reason fanciers don't seem to do more than one or two races and then stop them i'm not giving birds free for this to happen |

Just waded through that article in the BHW George, Mark Karges. Lots of interesting material in particular regarding OL racing. Thinks you need big strong birds that can hold their own for feed and perch, maybe food for thought. When you think about it a small bird could have it's heart knocked out of it from pillar to post. Regards. |

Have no grounds to base things on George but would think a cock would have an overall advantage, feed, perch etc; Overall think it is partly luck of the draw, if there was a certain way the monied fanciers would not send double figures. However, got much pleasure when our syndicate had a go and we did not do too bad with the numbers entered. It does allow fanciers not able to race to have some fun. Pity being for some reason too many pigeons never get a chance. Just hope you have a good result. Be interesting to see. And so to bed. Regards. |

| Wonder George how many cocks and hens have figured in the result of OL races, never actually thought about it before, will try to look at a few around the world.

Can well understand it George, they seem to have a good knack of reducing numbers within a couple of weeks. Thats why the syndicate packed in. You have to learn to lose gracefully but throwing pigeons away like they do is just not on. Have tried all ways to get to know the results and sex of all the OL race winners no luck. Regards. |

| yes misty no doubt that shares in bin liners go up once the carnage begins there eh ,it would seem that fanciers are finally letting the penny drop eh ...not surprising in the least given the way they have changed things dramatically once all entrants are in ,year before last they took a hotspot away and yet had time to do over 30 tosses and more ,and of course last year by switching the route south from north without even asking what the entrants thoughts were anyway nuff said on the matter from me ,just glad we are out and no longer have to worry if they are getting a fair crack at it or not ... its not difficult to work out is it ,they have gotten to big and to greedy imo |
